Thad McFadden poured in 33 points to lead sixth-seeded Fairmont State past No. 11 University of Charleston 77-61 in the opening round of the West Virginia Conference men's basketball tournament Tuesday in Fairmont.

The Golden Eagles made a game of it in the opening half, only trailing 37-34 at intermission. UC couldn't hold down the Falcons, who took flight in the second half with a 16-3 run to take a commanding 16-point lead (53-37) with 14:37 to go.
