Summary
Elkins comes alive on Saturday when the 69th annual Mountain State Forest Festival begins. The event, which runs through Oct. 9, is held at various locations in the city. The state's oldest festival, it was created to honor West Virginia's forest industry.
During the celebration, activities abound. There are tennis and horseshoe tournaments, a 10K run/walk, numerous contests (photography, muzzle loading, log stacking and lumberjack) and parades (children, fireman's, antique cars and grand features) and several talent competitions (country, gospel and variety). There are also Irish road bowling, a pet show, classic car and street rod show, a queen's ball, the princess coronation, hot-air balloon rides, train rides on the Tygart Flyer and a carnival with games and rides.See the full content of this document
