Capital High Theater Chooses 'Romeo and Juliet' for Fall Play

Summary


"I am here, madam. What is your will?" recites actress Brittany Sovine, a Capital High School senior, as she rehearses lines during her lunch period. Capital High School's theater department will perform Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" as its fall show this year, but that was not the original plan.

The typical fall show at Capital is a children's show, and elementary schools from all over the county ride buses to the high school to watch the performance. But due to Hurricane Katrina and rising gas prices, the Kanawha County Board of Education officials have forbidden schools to take multiple field trips because they are unable to afford gas for the buses. This news was devastating to Capital's theater students.
