Teaching Inspires the Mind

Summary


History teachers on all levels face a "steep hill to climb." A student's experience with history too often resembled my experience in 11th-grade history class, when instruction consisted of answering questions at the back of the chapter and taking a quiz on dates each Friday.

Over the years, I have been encouraged by more students coming to college with positive views of history. Last semester, more than a third of my freshmen students used words like "exciting' and "interesting" to describe their high school history class.
