A 37 percent increase this year in confirmed rabies cases has West Virginia health officials warning residents to get their animals vaccinated.

An outbreak in Greenbrier County, where nine cases were confirmed, has officials especially concerned after a rabid cat scratched a toddler. Veterinarians there have responded to immediate calls for a countywide vaccination clinic that offers shots at $5 per pet.
