Summary

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Mike McClendon carried a perfect game into the seventh inning and a no-hitter into the ninth before settling for a win as the West Virginia Power defeated the Asheville Tourists 8-1 Friday night.

McClendon retired the first 19 batters he faced. The perfect game was spoiled in the seventh when he walked Hector Gomez with one out. Gomez would later ruin McClendon's no-hitter with a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth.
