The Outdoors: ; an Rv Can Serve As a Base Camp for Fall Hunting Trips

Summary

(MS) - The fall season brings cool, crisp weather, vibrant colors and an easy pace in which to explore the landscape. For area hunters, it also brings anticipation of the first big hunting trip of the season and dreams of bagging that trophy buck. Whether they're stalking big game in the mountains or hunting ducks on a northern lake, more hunters are finding that an RV makes the perfect base camp. Despite the falling temperatures, RV travel will continue to be hot as hunters hit the road in search of their favorite hunting spots. Hunters today are forced to travel further distances and well off the beaten path due to continued urban development and diminishing access to private land. For this reason, RVs are proving essential to outdoor enthusiasts. Plus, in most cases, the best hunting grounds are far from a traditional campground or electrical hookup. Because of this trend toward more remote hunting, the perfect RV for the outdoor enthusiast is the towable, which is designed to be pulled by a vehicle. A towable RV makes a great instant hunting cabin due to its convenient hitch-and-go configuration. Once campers reach their destinations, the towable RV can be parked, unhitched and set up as a comfortable home away from home in a matter of minutes. Richard Thiry, an avid outdoorsman from Minnesota, enjoys the versatility his towable RV provides him during duck hunting trips. "If I'm hunting on a lake in northern Minnesota and can't find a good population of waterfowl, I can just hitch up my RV and try elsewhere."

Camp in comfort Many of today's towable RVs are built with the outdoor person in mind, coming equipped with comfortable living and sleeping quarters and featuring an installed generator that provides electrical power to run modern RV amenities such as air conditioning, televisions, refrigerators and microwaves. After a long day in the field, a home-cooked meal, hot shower and restful sleep in a warm bed is just what's needed. In addition to making the entire experience more enjoyable, there are some practical implications of having power when hunting, says Mike Kline, towable market manager for Onan's RV division. You can even bring along a freezer to preserve harvested game or prepare it in the kitchen. Also, camping in an RV equipped with a generator allows you to be prepared for weather and temperature extremes that are common this time of year. The hunter's best friend also benefits from the comforts that RV travel can provide, as it is important to keep your hunting dog cool or warm after a long hunt. The RV makes it really easy to bring the dogs along on hunting trips, says Thiry. "It's a lot more convenient than hauling kennels, and the dogs are comfortable riding in the RV."
