FROM the Great Depression through the Great Recession, somehow the second oldest continually running live theater in the United States lives on. The curtain rises on the Kanawha Players' 90th season Friday with Henrik Ibsen's classic, "A Doll's House."

"When the Kanawha Players had shows during the Depression, I'm sure they were living through the same things we are now," said Frank Guthrie, last year's president and current chair of the development committee. "Money was tight and attendance wasn't always the best."
