Born April 17, 1923, in Cedar Grove, W.Va., Dick lived most of his life in Shrewsbury. He was an honorable veteran of World War II and a longtime employee of Elkem Metals. Dick had a personal relationship with Christ and was actively involved in the Shrewsbury Community Church.
Dick enjoyed working in his wood shop creating various crafts for family and friends. Loved ones were also the recipient of his many practical jokes, which he would carry out anytime, anywhere.In his retirement, Dick enjoyed traveling with the love of his life, Elsie, in their motor home. In 1999, he moved to Texas to be closer to family. As a "Mountaineer" forever, Dick is returning to his loved ones in West Virginia.He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Elsie Sheldon, currently residing in Keller, Texas; a daughter, Brenda Sutter of Concord, Ohio; two sons, Larry of Keller, Texas, and John of Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and another on the way; and friends from his travels around the country.Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at Shrewsbury Community Church with the Rev. Tommie Taylor and the Rev. Norvell Atkins officiating. Burial will be in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Glasgow, with military rites by Gauley Bridge, W.Va., VFW Post No. 8366.
