Summary
OCTOBER has fled our hills, taking much of her gold with her. November, clad in swirling brown robes, takes her place. She wafts a fragrance compounded of hickory nuts, dry leaves, and the acrid smell of frostbitten plants.
Three hard frosts in a row have laid low the tender flowers and woodland plants, and stripped the walnut trees of all their leaves. There is still much beauty in our hills, however, with the beech trees standing with their bronze leaves fluttering in the wind.
