Nitro Leaders Make Plans for Table Gambling Income

Summary


Anticipating the legalization of table games in West Virginia, Nitro City Council voted Tuesday night to create a convention and visitors bureau, which would allow the city to begin collecting a hotel/motel tax.

City Treasurer Tifney Terry said without the bureau, the city forfeits the 3 percent tax to Kanawha County. Although there are currently no motels in the city, the Tri-State Gaming Center has announced its intentions to build one if the bill passes and casino gambling is allowed at the facility.
