Despite their best efforts to keep costs down, Kanawha County officials continue to watch their regional jail bill rise.

Last year, county officials were able to save large amounts on the jail bill compared with previous years. By carefully searching the monthly jail bill for mistakes, combined with an effort by county prosecutor Mark Plants to get criminals in and out of jail quickly, county officials saved as much as $37,000 a month.
