Hes the proverbial ball of fire, a perpetual whirling dervish who tackles projects with the idealistic enthusiasm of a schoolboy, the aggressive determination of a pit bull and the promotional proficiency of The Music Man, professor Harold Hill. An extensive list of organizations, honors and community contributions reflect the success of his upbeat, proactive approach. Distinguished West Virginian awards from six governors line one wall of an office crammed with enough memorabilia to fill a Smithsonian wing. Pictures of him with celebrities and political VIPs cover the walls, as well as the ceiling. Five gigantic scrapbooks brim with news clippings about his civic involvements. Since 1999, Bob Anderson has served busily as executive director of the South Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau. More than four decades of city and state government work started in 1965 as South Charlestons recreation director. The trademark exuberance has prevailed even in the face of sorrowful personal setbacks. At 66, Mr. South Charleston shows no signs of slowing down.
