Summary


On Tuesday, Vermont's legislature overrode a gubernatorial veto and legalized same-sex weddings. On the same day, West Virginia's House of Delegates couldn't muster enough votes to protect gays and lesbians from bigotry that causes them to be fired or evicted. What a sad contrast.

House Judiciary Chairman Carrie Webster, D-Kanawha, tried hard to add homosexuals to the state human rights law, but couldn't find much support among House members, so the proposal had to be shelved. This reveals the extent of mountain fundamentalist prejudice among some lawmakers.
