A missed penalty kick from top-ranked Charleston Catholic on the fifth and final try gave No. 7 George Washington a 4-3 advantage in the overtime shootout at the Region 3 Section 1 girls soccer championship game, advancing the Patriots to the regional tournament with a 2-1 win over the Fighting Irish Friday night at Schoenbaum Soccer Stadium at Coonskin Park.

GW (17-3-2) and Catholic (17-3-1) were tied at 3 going into the fourth set of kicks. Cris Eddy netted one for the Patriots and it proved to be the game winner.
