IN A GAZETTE article, Gayle Manchin said she is pro-choice and outlined her hope that if Joe Manchin is elected governor, "pregnancy intervention and prevention funding" would increase, and that abortion wouldn't be such a divisive issue. While I can't really make sense of what is meant by "pregnancy intervention and prevention funding," one thing is clear: Gayle Manchin's position on women's comprehensive reproductive health care is incongruent with her husband's.

The pro-choice community has always been a strong advocate for reducing unintended pregnancy and the need for abortion through increasing access to age-appropriate sexuality education and contraceptives. We believe in the rights of people to choose when or whether to have a child, that every child should be wanted, loved and cared for, and that women should be in charge of their own destinies.
