Farmers Market Opens at New Hurricane Site

The Putnam County Farmers Market premiered last week at a new location for 2011: Hurricane City Park. During the afternoon of May 19, the farmers market debuted officially, offering a collection of high-quality, locally grown foods; plants; pottery and more. Items available now include: * meats * artisan breads * asparagus * herbs * honey * jams and jellies * salad greens * bedding plants * handmade pottery. In July and into August, those operating hours will expand to include shopping opportunities from 3:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. In September and October, the hours will revert to the current ones on Thursdays and Saturdays only. A larger opening celebration is planned at the farmers market in July, as well, as the fresh produce supply peaks for the season. The Putnam County Farmers Market was established in 2009.
