Despite drop in purse, Players Cup still going strong

BRIDGEPORT - Crowds were down slightly and the purse was reduced by 40 percent because of a lousy economy, but the Players Cup is alive and well at Pete Dye Golf Club and should remain that way.

The Nationwide Tour completed its sixth year here with Tom Gillis' win on Sunday and the tournament's executive director, Tim McNeely, said the event this summer was no different than the previous five.
