Courts Step in to Help End Problem of Truancy

KINGWOOD - Circuit judges across West Virginia will soon begin developing tailor-made strategies for keeping children in school - in some cases, holding those who encourage or allow truancy accountable, state Supreme Court Justice Robin Davis said Thursday.

Truancy is a problem that schools deal with first, Davis said at a gathering of the American Federation of Teachers, but it typically leads to the court system and can cause bigger problems for society.
