Court Issues Stay in Child Protective Services Case

Summary


The state Supreme Court has stayed a contempt of court order against the state Department of Health and Human Resources in a case in which a judge said the Eastern Panhandle Child Protective Services unit is understaffed.

The DHHR had sought the stay in a petition that details changes the agency has made to improve CPS services. The court voted unanimously on Wednesday to issue the stay, but did not indicate if it will hear the agency's appeal.
