County Considers Pawn Shop Law

Summary


Kanawha County officials are considering an ordinance that requires the owners of pawn shops and scrap yards to turn over serial numbers and other information to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's Department Detective Scott Deitz told commissioners Kent Carper, Hoppy Shores and Dave Hardy at a regular meeting of the Kanawha County Commission on Thursday that the ordinance is necessary to help track down people trying to sell stolen merchandise at pawn shops and secondhand stores, and stolen metal at scrap yards.
