State corrections officials and lawmakers are looking for ways to ease overcrowding at prisons and regional jails, but they say finding a solution will not be easy.
Earlier this month, Military Affairs and Public Safety Secretary Jim Spears told a legislative oversight interim committee that there were 5,350 inmates in the Division of Corrections' facilities. But there are only 4,222 beds and about 1,300 inmates are being held at county and regional jails because there's no room for them in the prison system.See the full content of this document
