Cats Lose 6-2, Lead Slips to 2 1/2 Games

Summary

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - David Cook smacked a double to break up Alley Cats starter Shaun Marcum's no-hit bid and start a four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Kannapolis Intimidators downed Charleston 6-2 Wednesday afternoon at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

Charleston (39-26), which lost its fourth consecutive game, saw its South Atlantic League Northern Division lead slip to 21/2 games over the Hickory Crawdads (37-29), who defeated Lexington 5-3 Wednesday. The Cats have five games remaining in the first half and their magic number remains at three - any combination of Charleston wins and/or Hickory losses totaling three will clinch the first- half title and put the Cats in the Sally League playoffs for the first time since 1997.
