Summary


For a half-century, West Virginians have been accustomed to having Robert C. Byrd on the floor of the U.S. Senate, casting vote after vote to benefit the Mountain State.

Byrd has been West Virginia's biggest economic development machine, bringing $2 billion worth of federal offices, projects and jobs to his home state. He championed the Appalachian Corridor freeways that opened impassable mountains to easy access.
