SPIKE TV debuts the highly anticipated documentary "Viva Baseball: How Latinos Shaped America's Pastime" at 9 p.m. Friday. It's a history of Latin American baseball and is a labor of love for executive producer Dan Klores.
Klores chronicles in this 97-minute film the rough route Latin American players have taken to their current state of prominence in Major League Baseball. Latinos make up roughly 44 percent of all current major leaguers, but since the Hall of Fame opened in Cooperstown in 1939, only six Latin players have been inducted: Roberto Clemente, Juan Marichal, Luis Aparicio, Rod Carew, Orlando Cepeda and Tony Perez.See the full content of this document

The giant Latin networks Telemundo and Univision passed on "Viva Baseball" before Spike TV elected to pick up this documentary. Klores, who also had discussions with HBO, conducted more than 100 hours of interviews prior to final editing.
