Main Street Programs Recognize Outstanding Volunteer Efforts

On April 23, three Kanawha Valley Main Street organizations recognized outstanding volunteer achievements for 2007, during Main Street West Virginia's 20th Annual Celebration at Embassy Suites. East End Main Street named Susan Davis its Board Member of the Year for "enthusiastic leadership."

Below is a list of activities scheduled during June at the Main Library in Charleston and at Glasgow, Marmet and Riverside libraries. All programs are free unless otherwise noted. All Four Locations

Church & Religious Group Activities

COMMUNITY FELLOWSHIP DINNER The monthly Community Fellowship Dinner will be hosted by St. John's United Methodist Church, 5318 Church Drive in Rand, on Thursday, May 29. The dinner will be held in the Iris C. Jones Fellowship Hall, beginning at 6:30 p.m. A donation of $3 will be accepted at the door. The Community Fellowship Dinner is held on the last Thursday of each month, except in November and December. Call Shirley Conley at 925-5557 or Don Hedrick at 925-1620 for additional details.

Marmet Center Announces Branding of New Alzheimer's Unit: ; Open House, Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Thursday

Area Boys Soccer Team Wins Championship

The Charleston-area West Virginia Chaos '97 boys soccer team is on a winning streak after capturing the championship of the under- 10 boys division of the Chik-Fil-A Darrell Moore Memorial Classic Tournament May 11 and 12 in Beckley. The Chaos boys team, which includes players from Sissonville, Kanawha City and throughout the Charleston area, clinched the title with a victory over the Wolfpack soccer club of Ripley.

Horace Mann Students Present Recycling Skit

Six seventh-grade students from Horace Mann Middle School presented an original interactive skit on Earth Day, Monday, April 28, to two area schools on April 28. The author of the production is seventh-grader Coleen Isaiah. Other seventh-grade students who participated were: Alyse Litham, C.J. Harvey, Emily Dusic, Maddy Alqutub and Kelton George.

Generation Charleston to Host Homebuyer Panel Wednesday

Generation Charleston, the young professionals' committee of the Charleston Area Alliance, is sponsoring a Homebuyer Panel from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 at United Bank in Charleston. The free, public event is designed to help first-time buyers through the process of finding and purchasing a new home. It also will include a discussion about the development and availability of loft-style apartments in the downtown area.
