Seniors Set State Standard: ; Team Places Second in National Competition
The Turnpike Ford/Encore Management 65-to-69-year-old men's senior softball team recently placed second in the National Senior Olympics in Kentucky. According to the team's manager, Robert "Red" Jones of Kanawha City, this is the highest any West Virginia team, of any competing age group, has finished in Senior Olympic play.
Riverside High School graduate Joshua Waine was named the recipient of the Dr. Alberta Ray Anderson Scloharship awarded by thr GFWC Woman's Club of Montgomery. He will attend West Virginia University Institute of Technology in the fall, with a major in business management. He is the son of Mrs. Jan Waine of East Bank. Robert F. "Bob" Allen and his spouse, Wilma, are lifetime residents of the St. Albans area, where they have lived on Brown's Creek Road, a connector road between Coal River Road and U.S. 60 near the Putnam County line on Coal Mountain. The couple raised their family at the old home place and have remained there since the younguns moved on.

JoEllen Bursinger Zacks has joined the Charleston Area Alliance as senior vice president. Zacks is the former senior director of strategic communication and public relations for the Chicago-based American Bar Association, the world's largest professional membership organization.
