Vance Painting Exhibition Underway at Cultural Center

The West Virginia Division of Culture and History has unveiled a new exhibit, "Dwelling in the Backcountry: Paintings by Barry Vance," in the Art Gallery of the Cultural Center, State Capitol Complex, Charleston. The show will remain on display through Friday, April 21.

Kanawha County Elementary Students to Perform Concert

The Kanawha County Elementary Schools Concert for 2006 will get underway at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 9 in the Municipal Auditorium in Charleston. The concert will feature 300 students from schools throughout Kanawha County.

Meco Photo has announced the assembling of an all-years sports and band CD for the Charleston High and Stonewall Jackson High schools. "They will be ready for the market sometime this year," said Mill Chambers, owner of the Elkview company. "We have plans to complete all of the Kanawha Valley high schools this year, but, for now, we have digitally transferred seven high school yearbooks to CD and an all-sports disc will be developed."

'Baby Hope' Benefit to Aid Infant with Kidney Ailment

Her middle name is Hope, and that's what family, friends and the community have in abundance as they pray for 3-month-old Chrystine Hope Crites of Alum Creek. Kanawha Forum Releases Spring Luncheon Schedule

The Kanawha Forum will host the following musical programs and luncheons Wednesdays March 8 through April 12 at the Kanawha United Presbyterian Church, 1009 Virginia St. East in Charleston. Valley Woodworkers Celebrate 15 Years Feb. 9

The Valley Woodworkers of West Virginia celebrated its 15th anniversary on Feb. 9. Special guests at the meeting were club founder Gary Olerud and his wife Sharie. Olerud has since retired to Arkansas, where he enjoys golf, fishing and travel, as well as woodworking.

Marshall University Surpasses Campaign Goal

When Marshall University kicked off the public phase of its Campaign for National Prominence in September 2002, it set an unprecedented goal of raising $100 million in private donations by Dec. 31, 2005. On Feb. 24, Glen Kerkian, president and CEO of the Marshall University Foundation, Inc., announced that Marshall not only reached its goal, but exceeded it by 10 percent. The total amount raised or pledged in the campaign was nearly $110 million, Kerkian said.
