The King's Way Christian Church in Nitro will host a retirement reception for Harry and Janet Gill on Sunday, Oct. 9. The Gills ministered at the Boulevard Church of Christ in Charleston for 13 years before moving to the Fairmont Church of Christ in Mechanicsville, Va.
Early Voting Available On School Levy
While the deadline to register to vote in the Oct. 22 Putnam County school levy renewal election has passed, registered voters may now take advantage of early in-person voting, which started Sept. 30, according to Putnam County Clerk Brian Wood. He said the hours for early voting are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Active 4-H Program an Asset to County
When I was growing up in Roane County, I was a member of a 4-H Club. It was a great experience, including camping at Jackson's Mill and being introduced the first Putnam Countian that I can remember knowing, Mike Fewell. We both must have been about 16 years old at the time. Among the reasons for our family's moving to Putnam County was the knowledge that a vital, active 4-H program existed here. I wanted our children to experience some the things that I did in the program long ago.

Gospel Sing Lesage Independent Church will sponsor a gospel sing at Valley Park in Hurricane. National Merit Semifinalists Named
Four Putnam County high school seniors have been named semifinalists in the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Program. JaneAnn Kenney, Nima Seyedtalebi and Linda Yao of Hurricane High School, and Jackie Weitenhiller, of Winfield High School, received notice along with approximately 16,000 other talented students last week.
Public Invited to 4-H Holiday Craft Workshop
The annual 4-H Holiday Craft Workshop and Cookie Exchange will be held Monday, Nov. 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Putnam Career and Technical Center in Eleanor. This workshop offers classes for adults and older youth (sixth grade and up) and a Kids Korner for Kindergarten through fifth- grade children.
